Alexis II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, passed away in his residence of Peredelkino near Moscow at the age of 79. He suffered of heart disease for several years and was hospitalized several times, but yesterday still presided the Divine Liturgy for the feast of the Presentation of Mary in the Dormition Cathedral at the Moscow Kremlin. Alexis II (Alexij Mihailovich Ridiger) was born on 23 February 1929 in Estonia. He was the 15th Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church.
